We received our new mandates and guidelines from State of Hawaii Department of Human Services yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately without any prior notification, they have decided to drastically reduce our group sizes per CDC guidance for reopening child care centers. They have mandated that group sizes be no larger than 9 children and 1 teacher per physical classroom to keep group maximums of 10 including the staff. This will force us to reduce enrollment and increase tuition rates to compensate for the limitations. With these group sizing reductions, comes staffing limitations. They will allow one teacher to remain with each grouping for the duration of the day. This in turn forces us to reduce our hours of operation to accommodate staffing and labor restrictions. Our new hours of operation will be 8am – 4pm Monday through Friday. We will no longer be offering part time schedules. Please see the attached updated fee schedule effective June 1, 2020. We have also updated our school policies per the new regulations. If you would like a space in our program, please fill out a new financial agreement and email it along with the acknowledgement of changes of policy to us at acaringplacekailua@gmail.com. We will be processing them and getting back to those families we can accommodate. If we have more families than we are permitted to take, we will be making selections via a lottery system. Once we are full, we will place the remaining interested families on a wait list. We will welcome those children selected back on June 4th. Please read over our new drop off policy carefully. If you need help paying for childcare, please see the flyer with state subsidy info. They have waived income eligibility requirements. All are eligible to apply. We want you all to know that these decisions did not come easily to us. We looked at many different options to still accommodate the needs of our families. We hope that this will be a temporary change and that DHS will lift restrictions at some point for us to be able to accommodate more families. We look forward to seeing you soon.
